Thoughts about mind (from my mind)

I think it goes something like this...

The whole universe is full of information. In fact, we are made up of information. We are here taking in and making note of and reacting to the information all around us all day long every day.

We have this funny thing we like to call our mind. We like to think that it lives inside of our head.. That's certainly what it feels like. This voice inside our head likes to talk to us all day long about all the information that it is taking in. Not only that. It likes to talk to us about all the information that it has ever taken in, and also it likes to make stuff up, and tell that to us as stories. We like to believe that the things the voice in our head tells us are real. Not just true, but actual reality.

So, we believe. We believe that we live on planet earth and that we are such and such a person and that we work at this job and that the sky is blue and that brussel sprouts are gross and that my cousin is a jerk and that I'm hungry.

Some people believe man has landed on the moon.

Some people believe man has not landed on the moon.

I'm not saying that we don't live on planet earth or that man did or did not land on the moon. I'm just saying that it's interesting, isn't it, that we can believe in these realities that our mind is telling us, when all our mind is qualified to talk about is its own thoughts about things.

You know what my mind likes to think a lot about? Animals! My mind is always wondering what those guys' experience is like...

For instance.. Did you know that dogs have a great sense of smell? I bet you did! I often wonder what it's like for them to pick up a scent and then all of a sudden have access to all of this information that I have no idea about at all as I am pulling away at the end of the leash. Information like, what kind of animal was just here, what sex it was, how healthy it was, even how long ago it was that they were there. Did you notice that last one?! Dogs can SMELL THROUGH TIME!

And birds! What it must feel like to be able to fly! I betchya it's a bit like swimming. But what interests me more is how they know how to fly along their migration route. How they know.. Or rather, what it feels like for them. Is it like an urge like hunger? Is it a compulsion like feeling. I bet it is! I wish I understood.

Our minds stories and the stories of our society would like us to believe that if we understand all the stories and get them all right, we will be able to do this life better, be better people, and generally live a more wonderful life somehow. But I am beginning to have my doubts.

Look at the birds! They don't understand the way we do. They don't know how aerodynamics work.. But that doesn't stop them from being able to fly! Inside of them, quite likely inside of each of those little double helix thingies inside of each and every cell, there is the information they need. The way is all in there, and the recipe for the recipe for the recipe of how to implement it. It is beautiful and elegant.

We are animals too. We have inside of us the recipe for our best life already. That, whatever it is..  I don't think it talks to us with the voice of our mind, although if you learn to listen carefully it will talk to you. I wonder if in other animals the main language is feelings and compulsions and sensations. We have that too.. But the tricky bit is that our feelings and compulsions and sensations can be triggered by so many things (including our very own talky talky mind guy). Most of us are too bombarded with this language from ourselves and others, and very few of us are sensitive and aware enough to unscramble the noise.

I am trying to learn how to listen. I don't know what I'm doing. What I am trying is to just experience.. Without judgement.. And see what happens.

Just breathe.
